In a press release issued today, members of the American Society of Newspaper Editors voted to drop “newspapers'' from its name and become the American Society of News Editors
86 percent of the members additionally voted to extend membership to editorial leaders of online only news sites, along with journalism educators.
President Charlotte Hall wrote this change will allow "us to reflect the fact that we serve editors who are leaders in delivering news on multiple platforms in addition to newsprint."
ASNE was founded in 1922 as the leading organization of daily newspapers, charged with protecting First Amendment Rights.
