Just as Senator Hillary Clinton seems to have put the Democratic nomination on ice, with poll after poll showing her the clear front runner, the Draft Gore grass roots movement is picking up steam; preparing for another jolt of energy if Al Gore is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, almost a certainty, given the foundation's long history of selecting political agenda setters.
      Now another draft Gore website,
America for Gore is encouraging followers to drop 2 cents in an envelope, and mail it to their Nashville headquarters, to persuade the former VP to hop in the ring.
If the environmentally active, anti-war, movie star, still has presidential ambitions, he better speak now or forever hold his peace, because while Clinton is the clear party favorite to capture the nomination, her invincibility has recently been challenged, first by the Norman Hsu fundraising scandal ; now by the disclosure that Sandy Berger, a  former national security adviser, who admitted stealing documents from the National Security archives, has been advising her.
      Even party loyalists are
beginning to question if the New York junior senator is straddling both sides of the fence without demonstrating clear convictions either way, such as by voting a hard line on Iraq during her day job, while hopping into bed with MoveOn Orgers and whispering sweet anti-war nothings in their ears on the campaign trail.
If you consider all the Democratic contenders getting pounded in the polls, the time appears ripe for Gore to cash in on his rock star status (Academy award in one hand, a Nobel in the other), and wave his credentials, as the most obvious alternative to the smoke and mirrors of Clinton, while presenting an alarming slide show on the hazards that awaits voters if another Republican administation is elected to the White House.
